Kristen Macaulay | I am often introduced as Heidi’s right and left hand. For ten years she has been my boss, my friend and my mentor; it’s an honor to work by her side.
I’m a bonafide details girl – anything that takes time and patience is my specialty. Whether carefully adding a piece of a grandmother’s veil to the clutch of a bouquet, or foraging the best flower bits for a groom’s boutonniere, I know ‘little things’ can go a long way, and I make it my duty to think of them so our couples don’t have to.
So, what’s it like to work in a flower shop? Well I can’t tell you about most, but at Sugar Magnolias, it’s always the best day ever. We chat and laugh and sing to great music on full blast. We eat yummy food. We gush over intoxicating blooms. It’s also messy and exhausting and physical work, too.
As of lately, my young daughter is often in tow, and there is no greater joy than watching her experience what I love firsthand, and have her welcomed and encouraged to love, play and grow around flowers.
It’s beautiful and wonderful way to work, and the love we have for what we do shines through in each and every wedding we complete.
